At Elvas, we saw their very well preserved ancient aqueduct and castle and a local artist/craftsman making a curious ''drum''. The on to the main event, one of their many grand marble quaries. The pit is so deep the machines down there look like toye, and the elevator goes only 1/2 way down. you take the steps the rest of the way... we didn't! They slice the blocks into slabs just right for kitchen counters and polish them on the spot. That evening - another party, this one their Medieval Festival, a bit like our Renaissance Fairs ...
