We adopted new friends in the hotel hallways, there were a dozen period themed Ladies, Gentlemen and Soldiers, we had to include them in our group photo. In town we saw up close the replica of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the functional replica of the Golden Gate bridge and the Belem Tower just reopened without scaffolding after restoration. We toasted a great trip with Silvia, then later at the hotel rooftop celebrated the 4th of July authentically with Madeira wine, just as our forefathers did at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Coincidentally we shared our celebration with a couple we just met - from Virginia. It turns out they live just a couple of miles from us, and he was our pilot for the flight home!
